Thousands gather in London to protest racial injustice

LONDON (AP) — Thousands of protesters gathered in London’s Hyde Park on Wednesday to demonstrate against police violence and racial injustice following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis that has set off days of unrest across the United States. Chanting “Black Lives Matter,” the protesters streamed into central London’s biggest open space and a traditional venue for demonstrations. Other protests are also set to take place Wednesday around the world from Cape Town in South Africa to Reykjavík in Iceland. As in many of the protests in the U.S., many of the demonstrators in London appeared to be ignoring the coronavirus social distancing guidelines, in the U.K.’s case of staying 2 meters (6 ½ feet) apart.
