Surf’s up and so are new beach rules to prevent virus spread

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Along the California coast and in states known for silky sands, warm waters and ample sun, the surf is up along with a new set of rules to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Los Angeles County beaches reopened this week requiring masks on the beach and rules that people be exercising or moving. Hawaii and Florida have also put measures in place to prevent large groups from gathering, though there is a wide range of what’s acceptable. At Waikiki, beachgoers have to be exercising, but some beaches in the Gulf of Mexico in Florida allow beach chairs and picnics.
