North Wasco County School District Board of Directors is pleased to announce they have selected Theresa Peters, Principal at Dry Hollow Elementary School, for the 2020-2021 NWCSD Interim Superintendent. The Dalles High School Principal Kurt Evans and District Human Brian Schimel were also interviewed by the school board at their April 30th, 2020 Special School Board Meeting.
Ms. Peters will take the helm on July 1st taking over the position from retiring Superintendent, Candy Armstrong. Ms. Armstrong has led the North Wasco County School District since 2004.
School Board Director, Rebecca Thistlethwaite, stated in the Special School Board meeting last night that the board was enthusiastic and thrilled we were to receive such top notch candidates and that we have that level of quality and skill within our own district which I think is a real testament to the fabulous educators and staff we have in this district, that we can pull that kind of talent from our own community. Brian, Theresa, and Kurt all have unique strengths and do such good work in their positions and we thank you all and this was a very tough decision for us.
“Thank you very much for this opportunity,” Peters told the board. “I look forward to working closely with the board and continuing to work closely with my fellow administrators and the team in the district. I agree; next year is going to be filled with challenges. But one thing I know is the staff in North Wasco supports each other, and we will get through it together.”
The School Board will resume the permanent superintendent search starting this next year, with the start date for that position to be July 1st, 2021.
