LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a Lakewood police officer fatally shot a driver during a traffic stop. KOMO-TV reports the 28-year-old man from Tacoma was taken to hospital, where he died after the Friday afternoon incident. Lakewood police Capt. Ryan Portmann says the officer had pulled the man’s vehicle over and called for back-up officers. As back-up officers were arriving, Portmann says the officer opened fire, striking the driver. Police have not yet said what led to the traffic stop and have not identified the officer. Officials say the incident is being investigated by the Cooperative Cities Crime Response Unit.
