JOHANNESBURG (AP) — The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says more than 1 million coronavirus tests will be rolled out starting next week in Africa to address the “big gap” in assessing the true number of cases. He says “maybe 15 million tests” will be required over the next three months. The initiative to dramatically accelerate testing comes as Africa’s 1.3 billion people brace for their turn in the pandemic. More than 17,000 cases have been confirmed but health officials have said the testing shortage means more exist. One projection estimates more than 10 million severe cases in the next six months.
