North Wasco School District Search for Interim Superintendent (Re-Posting)

The North Wasco County School District Board of Directors would like to thank all of the candidates who applied for the superintendent position opening for our schools.

The Board met with three highly-qualified individuals that undoubtedly are well-positioned to step into this type of role, but were unfortunately not a fit for our District and our needs.

The Board did not take this position lightly, but felt that it was important to re-open the search to find additional candidates who better represent the strategic vision necessary to guide North Wasco

County Schools forward into meeting the expectations of our students, teachers, staff, and community.

As a result of the March 16th, 2020 executive school board meeting and after follow-up discussions with the search firm retained by the board, and in light of the current state of economic uncertainty, the external search will be suspended.

The Board felt that the best option for moving forward at this time lies within our present administration. An interim role was agreed upon by the Board to ensure operational continuity for the upcoming school year. The District has qualified administrators who are willing and able to serve as our next superintendent. Using a formal application process, the Board has decided to choose from one of our own qualified administrators to serve as interim superintendent for the upcoming school year.

In follow up, at the March 19th, 2020 school board meeting, the North Wasco County School District Board of Directors unanimously approved a motion to reopen the superintendent search internally only for an interim superintendent for the next school year (2020 – 2021). The motion directed staff to assist the Board in that effort.

Chairman John Nelson stated that the Board would conduct a superintendent search next year to decide on a permanent replacement for retiring Superintendent Candy Armstrong.
