Goldendale City Council met last night for the first time in the new year and took care of some needed formalities. Four council members and Mayor Mike Canon were sworn in. The mayor and councilors Andy Halm, Jane Roberts and Filberto Ontiveros were elected or re-elected in November and Loren Meagher was appointed last month to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of former councilor Guy Theriault. Councilors also elected a Andy Halm, the senior member on the council as mayor pro tem to fill in for the mayor as needed, and sorted out committee assignments.
The city’s volunteer fire department reported that in 2019 they were called out 189 times including 10 structure fires, 10 wildland fires, and 99 medical calls. And chief Reggie Bartkowski reported on his department:
And councilors set several committee meeting dates. The event committee will meet at 5:30 on Tuesday January 21, before the city council meeting and nonprofit groups looking for tourism dollars are asked to bring a short executive summary of what they want the money for. The reason the council meeting is being held on a Tuesday night is because Monday is the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday holiday. The public works committee will meet at 6 pm on Monday January 27.
