The Washington Hospitality Association has named Rep. Gina Mosbrucker as “2019 Legislative Hero” for her work in the state Legislature supporting the hospitality industry.
Every year, the association’s State Government Affairs Team selects one individual from each of the four caucuses for the award. Legislators are selected for many different reasons, including sponsorship of a bill, support in committees, on the floor, in caucus, and voting on critical hospitality issues.
Washington Hospitality Association Government Affairs Committee Co-Chair Ron Oh said Mosbrucker’s understanding of the hospitality industry and the perspective of a small business owner proved invaluable during the 2019 session.
“We are deeply appreciative of Representative Mosbrucker as a leader in her caucus and easily selected her as one of our 2019 Legislative Heroes for Hospitality,” said Oh, who is also general manager of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites North Seattle Shoreline. “With extensive knowledge and experience in the industry, Representative Mosbrucker is a champion for hospitality job creators and was willing to find a solutions-oriented approach within the labor, business and employment regulation proposals that came across her desk last session.”
Mosbrucker, who serves as ranking Republican on the House Labor and Workplace Standards Committee, said she’s very appreciative.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to receive this award. I grew up in the hospitality industry, with my parents involved in hospitality-related businesses in the Goldendale area. It’s been a large part of my life, so I understand the needs and challenges of this industry,” said Mosbrucker, who owns and manages a hotel and other businesses in Goldendale.
“Nearly half of all Americans have worked in the hospitality industry at some point in their lives. It provides thousands of family-wage jobs across Washington state, so it’s important to do what we can to support this industry and ensure its continued success,” added Mosbrucker. “I’m very grateful for this honor, but the real recognition goes to the hospitality workers who serve every day.”
Awards will be presented during the 2019 Hospitality Convention dinner, Nov. 3, in Bellevue.
