Road in Everett closes while bridge put up to stop flooding

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A major road in Everett is closed while work is under way to install a new bridge that will stop severe flooding.

The Everett Daily Herald reports the road closure that started Tuesday will last 10 days. Marine View Drive is closed between 13th and 18th streets.

The metal frame of the bridge has been sitting next to Marine View Drive for some time.

Transporters will move the bridge onto the road, and then towers will be built to lift it up before turning it and putting it into place over Marine View Drive.

Pipes will run underneath to help move water off the streets above.

Construction began in 2017 after a series of flooding problems.

The road can’t handle heavy rain like was seen last week.

The bridge is set to open in 2020.
