Evacuations ordered due to wildfire southwest of Spokane

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Officials ordered the evacuation of about 10 homes near southwest of Spokane near Cheney and put another group of residences on notice to be ready to leave at any time because of a wildfire.

A Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy at the scene wasn’t sure how many residents under evacuation notices for the area near the intersection of Graham Road and Highway 904 had left as of 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Washington Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Isabelle Hoygaard told the Spokesman-Review the fire was estimated at 30-40 acres but wasn’t spreading at that time.

Called the Graham Fire, it was the largest of three fires crews were battling in Cheney Wednesday afternoon.
