One of the main topics of discussion at the Goldendale City Council meeting last night was the city’s airport, which recently received a $550,000 grant for improvements. Councilors hope to increase the runway to 60 feet wide and 5,000 feet long and add aviation fuel availability. Local businessman Ty Ross has taken a keen interest in the subject and his report was the first item on the agenda. He said he hoped to get a meeting of the Airport Committee after the council meeting last night or today with the Klickitat County Commission.
He was reminded under Washington law, committee meetings must be noticed a minimum of 24 hours in advance since they are public meetings, in order for the public to be able to attend. That would not prevent the mayor or city administrator from attending the County Commission meeting today. Due to scheduling conflicts for committee members, a meeting for the committee has been set for 5 pm on Monday, July 1, before the next city council meeting.
