The Columbia River Gorge Commission met at the Readiness Center in The Dalles yesterday. Commissioners held several hearings. The largest dealt with Klickitat County applicants who appealed a decision by the executive director on a proposed house in the National Scenic Area. A motion to support the appeal was defeated by a 6 to 4 vote of the 10 commissioners present. A later vote, which was unanimous, remanded the issue back to the Gorge Commission staff for further work.
Commissioner Lynn Burditt, who administers the federal lands in the National Scenic Area, said the Forest Service was working with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State Parks on short-term congestion mitigations at Multnomah Falls.
She said they also have situations where people are trying to pass and get out of the way and those are getting more challenging.
