PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say a suspect has been taken into custody at a Northeast Portland Fred Meyer store where a person reportedly was holed up with a weapon.
The Portland Police Bureau said a special emergency reaction team and the crisis team were sent to the store Thursday afternoon to help officers with the person in the store.
Employees told The Oregonian/OregonLive they didn’t see or hear any commotion but were told to leave.
Portland Officer Carlos Ibarra says officers had responded around noon to a Kohl’s store after someone reported the man pulled out a handgun when a worker confronted him about the theft of merchandise. Ibarra says officers tried to arrest the man while he was near the Fred Meyer, but then he ran inside.
Police said at about 4:50 p.m. that the person had been taken into custody.
