Wasco County Commissioners met in an abbreviated session yesterday and adopted a pair of ordinance regarding taking over the Building Codes jurisdiction from the State of Oregon, who took over last February after the former Mid-Columbia Council of Governments dissolved. One ordinance created the new county department and another set the fee schedule along with reauthorizing the current fees in other county departments. The ordinance included the opportunity to contract out services to other counties and cities. Sherman, Gilliam and Wheeler counties previously were served from The Dalles office under MCCOG for seven years and under the state sine last February. Commissioner Scott Hege reported that he’d recently met with commissioners of those other three counties and that they are considering it along with exploring options with other Eastern Oregon counties. Wasco County takes over operations on July 1.
