Presidential hopeful Inslee wants 100% clean energy by 2030

Democratic presidential candidate Jay Inslee is proposing to limit most carbon emissions nationwide by 2030 as a way to combat climate change.

The Washington governor wants 100% of electricity produced in the U.S. to be carbon neutral by 2030. His proposal also would require nearly all new vehicles and buses and all new residential and commercial buildings to be carbon neutral by the same deadline.

Inslee is unveiling details at a campaign event in Los Angeles on Friday.

The 68-year-old is the only Democratic presidential candidate hinging a bid on the promise to combat climate change.

Inslee has not yet attached a taxpayer or private sector cost to his proposal but argues that the transition to clean energy will boost the economy and save money in the long term.
