Portland police arrest suspect in theft of mayor portrait

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police have arrested a suspect in the theft of a portrait of former Mayor Neil Goldschmidt.

The framed photograph was stolen from the outer entryway of the mayor’s office and the Central Precinct’s Neighborhood Response Team launched an investigation.

On Friday night, officers found a video online showing the suspect burning the portrait.

Officers arrested Jeffrey Black on Saturday at his residence. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and charged with criminal mischief and theft.

It was not immediately known if Black had a lawyer.
