Weekend events March 29-31


Columbia Gorge Community College is doing a little spring cleaning and is hosting a Surplus Sale today from noon to 5 pm and tomorrow from 9 am to 5 pm in the Fort Dalles Readiness Center. The Readiness Center is located on The Dalles Campus at 402 East Scenic Drive. Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, which has offices on the college campus, is also participating in the event. All items are priced to sell; sale of college items will benefit the college’s general fund, while sale of surplus items from Oregon DEQ will benefit the college foundation’s general scholarship fund. Surplus items are posted on the college’s website, and include projectors, fire-proof safes, arc welders and welding hoods, a laser printer, desks, laptops, computers, office chairs, lecterns, shelving, book cases … even a set of barn doors.

Gorge Country Media presents Brewer’s Grade Band’s “Come Get It Over With” Single Release and Video Premiere! Doors will open at The Dalles Civic Auditoriumat 5:30, with no-host food and drink provided by Freebridge Brewing. Opening the show at 7:00 will be Northwest Country artist Zac Burrell from Pasco, WA. The music video will be premiered at 8:00, followed immediately by a performance by BGB! The event will also feature big discounts on 2018 merchandise and some one-of-a-kind BGB auction items! Free admission with a donation to The Dalles Civic Auditorium at the door. All ages welcome! First come, first served as space allows.

Tonight 7 to 9 pm showing of the award-winning d ocumentary Modified at the Rockford Grange in Hood River. The filmmaker and her mother embark on a very personal and poignant investigative journey to find out why genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are not labeled on food products in the United States and Canada, despite being labeled in 64 countries around the world. Plays For Non-Profits is proud to present Pygmalion — a staged reading by George Bernard Shaw – tonight and tomorrow night at 7 pm and Sunday at 1:30 pm at Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River.


The Dalles City Council will hold a retreat Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Four Seasons Event Center, 1535 Bargeway Road, The Dalles. The meeting is open to the public.

The first-ever South County Business Expo runs from 2 to 5 pm tomorrow afternoon in Tygh Valley with some 35 businesses and agencies attending, including restaurants offering a Taste of South County. Admission is absolutely free.


Oregon second district Congressman Greg Walden will hold town halls in Gilliam County and Sherman County Sunday, starting with a Gilliam County Town Hall at 11 am at Anderson Building/Wheatland Insurance, 307 S. Main Street in Condon, followed by a Sherman County Town Hall at 2:30 p.m. at the Wasco Event Center, 903 Barnett Street in Wasco
