Vancouver officer injured in chase ending in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a police officer in Washington state was injured during the car chase and shootout on interstates in Portland, Oregon.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports 28-year-old Vancouver Police Officer James Porter was taken to a hospital and released following the Tuesday pursuit that began in the Portland suburb.

Police say Porter had been chasing the fleeing pickup truck that held two men, who were both apprehended.

Porter fired his gun during the shootout with the men and has been placed on critical incident leave, which is standard practice following police shootings.

One of men taken into custody remained in the hospital Wednesday.

Police allege Erkinson Bossy, one of the men arrested, is linked to the killing of a clerk at a Kelso market last month.
