Media Release From: Jeff King, Klickitat County Department of Emergency Management Date: January 25, 2019 RE: Klickitat County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan Klickitat County Set to Develop Hazard Risk Plans Goldendale, WA.
Klickitat County has launched a project to create a Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan for Klickitat County. Local agencies and organizations in Klickitat County have created a team to complete the hazard mitigation plan as part of the FEMA Pre-Disaster Mitigation program. The project is being funded through a grant from FEMA. The plan will include risk analyses, vulnerability assessments, and mitigation recommendations for the hazards of flood, landslide, earthquake, severe weather, wildland fire, volcano and others.
Klickitat County has retained Northwest Management, Inc. to provide risk assessments, hazard mapping, field inspections, interviews, and to collaborate with the planning team to create the plan. The committee includes representatives from local communities/municipalities, non-profit organizations, rural and wildland fire districts, law enforcement, Washington Department of Natural Resources, public works, public utilities district, area businesses, various Klickitat County departments and others.
One of the goals of the planning process will be to increase the participating jurisdictions’ eligibility for additional grants that will help minimize the risk and potential impact of disaster events, thus making a more resilient county. The planning team will be conducting public meetings to discuss preliminary findings and to seek public input on hazard mitigation recommendations.
A notice of the dates and locations of these meetings will be posted on Klickitat County Department of Emergency Management website and throughout local media outlets. Once completed, the draft plan will also be available for public review and comment.
