Weekend events Jan 25-27


The Discovery Center presents a program featuring Bill Burgel and the History of Railroading in the Columbia River Gorge. He has worked in various capacities within the railroad industry for the past 48 years and is the former Chief Train Dispatcher for Union Pacific. He is also a geologist and will combine Gorge Geology and Rail Engineering and Operations together. That program is at 7 pm tonight. Tickets are $5

Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association Jazz Collective presents a Salute to Duke Ellington. The Jazz Collective Big Band will be joined by high school and middle school bands from Hood River and White Salmon, including the Hood River Middle School jazz band, the Hood River Valley High jazz band, the Columbia HS jazz band and the Trout Lake jazz band. Two concerts this weekend, Friday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm, both at the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 CGOA members, $5 Youth (ages 10-17) and free for kids under 10.


Free Saturday morning movie at Cascade Cinemas in The Dalles. This week features PG rated Early Man. Doors open 9:15am, movie starts at 10am. Doors close 10:10am or after first 400 admitted. YOUTHTHINK will be collecting canned food donations.

Breweries in the Gorge is hosting the 3rd Annual Holiday Hangover Beer Fest located in from 1 to 7 pm Saturday at the Hood River Elk’s Lodge. This 21 and over event will feature a wide variety of craft beer including special reserves, ciders, and even hard kombucha, all brewed here in Columbia Gorge. In addition to regionally crafted beer, Apple Valley BBQ will be on site serving up world-class BBQ. Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door includes collectors glass and eight 4 ounce drink tickets. Gorge Roller Derby now freshly rebranded as GRD kicks off the 2019 season with a doubleheader Saturday at the Fort Dalles Readiness Center. Doors open at 4 pm, GRD All Stars will skate against Emerald City Roller Derby at 5 pm; GRD Blood N Gorge will skate against Storm City Roller Girls at 7pm. After Party at Freebridge Brewing with MR.ELIVE spinning music !


Teacup Lake Nordic Club and The Mountain Shop of Portland welcome ALL LEVELS of racers to join us for this annual classic-technique race held on the beautiful trails around Teacup Lake in the Mount Hood National Forest. This year’s races will start with a mass start. As in recent years, the 15k course will feature a 10k loop followed by a 5k loop. The 5k course will be the same as the second lap of the 15k. The start will be approximately 150 meters from the cabin, and the finish (and the lap for the 15k) will be at the cabin. There will also be fun 1k for kids up to 9 and a 2k race for kids up to 13 years old. Parking is limited on race days, so plan accordingly and consider carpooling. THERE WILL BE NO DAY OF RACE REGISTRATION THIS YEAR, so please register by midnight on January 25, 2019.

Race Distances:

1k – open to kids up to 9 (U10)

2k – open to kids up to age 13 (i.e U14)

5k – open to all ages (recommended that kids who are under 14 register for the kid’s race unless they are advanced skiers)

15k – open to ages 15 and up (i.e. category U16 and older)
