OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Hours after a Senate committee held a public hearing on Gov. Jay Inslee’s proposal for utilities to provide carbon-free electricity by 2045, Inslee will meet with former California Gov. Jerry Brown to discuss climate change and clean energy.
The Senate Environment, Energy and Technology held its first hearing on the measure Thursday morning. Democratic Sen. Reuven Carlyle, the committee’s chairman, said the committee would likely vote on the measure next week.
Inslee is among a crowded field of Democrats eyeing a 2020 presidential bid and looking for a legislative win on his climate agenda. He and Brown will have a private meeting with Democratic leaders in the House and Senate Thursday afternoon to discuss the measure before briefly talking with the media.
