Thanksgiving weekend events Nov 21-25


Helping Hands Wednesday morning 7 to 9 am in front of the Gorge Country Media studios at 620 East Third Street in The Dalles. Drop by for a free cup of coffee and a doughnut while you drop off warm clothing and blankets unwrapped toys, nonperishable food items or cash. Our friends at Google will be helping this week. Everything goes to the local Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul and stays right here in the community.

Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association Stages’ Salons are a new series of informal, intimate evenings of music, poetry, literature, and drama organized around a theme. Wednesday 7:30 to 9 am at Stave and Stone Winery 210 Oak in Hood River Admission is free but donations are gladly accepted to support Stages’ theatrical productions.

The Goldendale Community Thanksgiving dinner begins at noon on Thursday at Father’s House Fellowship Church located at 207 S. Klickitat Street. The dinner is free and open to the public and especially for those who don’t have a Thanksgiving meal of their own to enjoy. For those who would need transportation Call Dr. James Ogden at either 509-773-4114 or 509-250-6147. Thanksgiving dinners can also be delivered in the Goldendale area by calling those same phone numbers.


Planning to go a little too hard on the mashed potatoes this Thanksgiving? Then make sure to put Green Friday on the calendar for the next day. Continuing the tradition of encouraging people to get outside, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is waiving parking fees at the 25 parks with a daily $5 parking charge on Nov. 23. In the Columbia River Gorge that means you can take a bathroom break Friday at Viento or Rooster Rock Park without paying $5 for the privilege.

Support two youth camps in the Gorge! Purchase your Christmas tree at the lot in Hood River across from the Armory (1507 12th Street). Beginning Friday, November 23rd through December 20th. Open 10 am to 9 pm. All proceeds go to Camp Morrow and Camp Jonah.

Hollywood Christmas” Is the theme for this year’s 29th annual Starlight Parade. starting at 6 pm at Cascade Square and continuing through downtown The Dalles ending at The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce . The Tree Lighting Celebration will take place following the parade at 7 pm complete with Santa photos, hot chocolate, cookies, and popcorn. . Also serving chili, popcorn, hot chocolate and coffee to the community 6 to 8 pm on the corner of 2nd and Federal downtown The Dalles.

The Whiskey Flats Brass Band presents a Grand Concert of stirring marches, glorious patriotic songs, toe- tapping dances and every manner of brass band music Sunday 2 to 3 pm at the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center and Museum in Stevenson.
