Helping Hands kicks off 5-week donation campaign

Mike Kilkenny with St. Vincent dePaul, left and Lt. John Cardenas of the Salvation Army are ready to hand out coffee and doughnuts to people making contributions as Y102 DJ Stan Fargher broadcast from the sidewalk in front of the Gorge Country Media Studios at 620 East Third Street. Within the first 10 minutes, they received the donation of a $100 bill.

With Christmas less than six weeks away, Gorge Country Media will hold their annual Helping Hands Each Wednesday for the next five weeks. We’ll be broadcasting from the sidewalk in front of our studios at 620 East Third Street, across from the Salvation Army starting at 7 am. You’re invited to stop by and drop off winter clothing and blankets, unwrapped gifts for children, nonperishable food items or that handy donated item, cash.

Each week the event is presented by a different sponsor. November 14 it’s Grocery Outlet, followed by Google on November 21 , Columbia Bank broadcasting at the Cherry Heights Branch on November 28, Northwest Natural on December 5 and winding up at Grocery Outlet on December 12.

Last year we raised more than $2000, and all proceeds go to the Salvation Army and St. Vincent dePaul, who distribute the food, clothing and gifts to people right here locally. This holiday season is a great time to count your blessings, and share with those less fortunate. And when you stop by, we’ll have free coffee and donuts. Just pull over to the curb; you don’t even have to get out of your car.
