Trump warns of ‘violence’ if Democrats win midterm elections

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says he hopes there won’t be violence in response to midterm elections this fall.

Many political observers have said the chances are good that Democrats will retake control of the House.

Reporters asked Trump on Wednesday what he meant when he brought up the subject of violence and midterms elections while speaking two days earlier to a gathering of conservative Christian pastors and other supporters. Audio obtained by media outlets has the president saying that if Democrats win, they “will overturn everything that we’ve done and they’ll do it quickly and violently.”

In responding to a reporter’s question about those remarks, Trump said Wednesday, “There’s a lot of unnecessary violence all over the world, but also in this country, and I don’t want to see it.”
