SEATTLE (AP) — Bail has been set at $1 million for a teen charged in a police chase that led to a suburban Seattle officer being struck and killed by another pursuing officer in a patrol car.
KING-TV reports 16-year-old Emiliano Garcia pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and had bail set in court Thursday.
He has been charged as an adult in the incident in which police say he was driving a pickup truck in a chase that led to the death of Kent Police Officer Diego Moreno on July 22.
Garcia’s attorney Bradley Barshis argues that Garcia was not responsible for Moreno’s death.
Moreno was hit after deploying spike strips to slow the truck.
Two teen passengers are also facing charges in the incident.
Prosecutors say they illegally fired off guns in a parking lot and then fled the scene recklessly during the police chase, which lead to the officer’s death.
