Man accused in murder near Port Orchard pleads guilty

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A man accused of shooting a friend in the head during a scuffle outside of Port Orchard has pleaded guilty.

The Kitsap Sun reports 39-year-old Shawn Michael Dean Hamlin is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree burglary for the death of 48-year-old David Ray Garcia.

He pleaded guilty to the charges last week.

Garcia’s body was discovered at his house outside of Port Orchard in April.

Hamlin told a detective that he and Garcia had gotten into a fight before his death.

Hamlin’s lawyer, Tom Weaver, says both men were under the influence of meth and heroin.

According to the plea agreement, lawyers from both sides will recommend a sentence of about 16 years.

Hamlin will be sentenced Aug. 10.
