8/2 – 10:00 am update

Wishram, WA, – Steady progress continues to be made by the fire crews. The footprint has not changed appreciably since yesterday’s update. The entire fire perimeter is either
a bulldozer dug line, existing roadways, and/or a combination of wet-line and hand-dug crew lines. Our mop up standard for the perimeter is 50 feet of black and around
residences it is 100 feet.

Last evening around 5:30, the fire crossed our control line and made an uphill run to the northeast. Helicopter water dumps helped crews to contain the breakout. Night crews were used the past two nights and will continue tonight. Last night hot spots were found and put out.

The temperatures will be cooler, in the mid 80s, with higher relative humidities.

The fire is still warm in the interior. These hot spots will be of concern today with the forecasted winds. This is the dirty part of the job. Today we will continue to check for these hot spots. Once detected, the heat source is brought to the surface, turned over, wetted down, and made sure it is extinguished. Then the crew moves to the next part of the grid.

There are fewer resources available nationally. With that in mind, the Incident Management Team is working to suppress this fire as quickly as possible, but leave it in a safe condition. This will allow crews to work on other fires. They are also working on getting Highway 14 reopened as soon as it is safe to do for both the firefighters and the
traveling public.

Baring any unforeseen development, the suppression effort will transition back to local jurisdictions Friday.
