KENT, Wash. (AP) — Police in Kent, Washington, say they now have three teenage suspects in custody in connection with a police chase that led to an officer being struck and killed by a pursuing officer in a patrol car.
Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla said at a news conference Monday afternoon that one teen was arrested after the incident early Sunday and that two others were arrested since then.
Padilla says Officer Diego Moreno died Sunday after he deployed spike strips at an intersection to stop the suspect’s vehicle after it fled a restaurant parking lot where gunshots had been fired.
Padilla says the suspect vehicle crashed after running over the strips and that the pursuing officer crashed into Padilla.
Padilla says the other officer remains hospitalized.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the police crash.
