COLFAX, Wash. (AP) — A felon who served time for hiding the body of a teenager in a safe is no longer in custody after Whitman County prosecutors did not file new charges against him.
KXLY-TV in Spokane reports 49-year-old Bobby Bilderback was arrested in his Malden home Sunday and jailed on investigation of rape, assault and kidnapping.
Whitman County prosecutors said Wednesday that the alleged victim in the case stopped cooperating with investigators so prosecutors could not bring charges.
Bilderback was convicted in 2013 of controlled-substance homicide and unlawful disposal of human remains for his role in the death of 17-year-old Donavin Stapert. The Malden teen overdosed on methamphetamine in Bilderback’s home.
Bilderback also previously served more than two decades in prison for a first-degree murder conviction in Chelan County.
A call to his lawyer was not immediately returned Thursday.
