Wasco County looking for input on long-range plans

Wasco County is seeking public input for Wasco County 2040, an update to their 30 year old Comprehensive Plan for land use and development. The Wasco County Citizen Advisory Group (CAG) and the Planning Department will be visiting four locations throughout the county in May and June to hear from local residents. The public is encouraged to attend and share ideas for developing a strong vision for Wasco County’s future.
The event locations were chosen strategically by the Citizen Advisory Group as regional hubs and include The Dalles, Dufur, Maupin and Mosier. The event dates and times are:
May 30th, 5:30-7:30PM, Dufur City Hall (175 NE 3rd St, Dufur, OR)
May 31st, 5:30-7:30PM, Mosier Grange Hall (900 4th Street, Mosier, OR)
June 5th, 5:30-7:30PM, Columbia Gorge Community College Lecture Hall (Bldg 2)
June 7th, 5:30-7:30PM, Maupin Legion Hall, (408 Deschutes Ave, Maupin, OR)
The format of the events will include brief presentations by staff followed by group discussion that includes the public and members of the CAG. The information collected during the events will be used to inform policies and implementation strategies for the Comprehensive Plan update. CAG and planning staff are interested in strategies for addressing water resource concerns, economic development in the County, possible land use planning incentives to help achieve policy goals, and where citizens are interested in
seeing agri-tourism activities take place in the County.
Wasco County 2040 is an update to the Wasco County Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is the guiding document for the next 20 years of land use planning in Wasco County. The multi-year update project will achieve its first series of minor updates by the end of May 2018. There are over 19 work tasks slated to be completed before the end of 2020 through a process with the State Department of Land Conservation and Development called Periodic Review.
The Comprehensive Plan impacts the quality of life for residents and development rights of property owners located in unincorporated areas of Wasco County. Incorporated cities have their own land use plans.
People interested in participating but who are unable to attend to the meeting are encouraged to visit the project website (wasco2040.com) to take the new survey, submit comments and read more about the planning efforts.
