Senators introduce Medicare for all bill

Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley and 11 others are asking why we should have to wait until age 65 to sign up for Medicare. They have introduced a bill called Medicare for All that would allow anyone, including an employer to buy Medicare coverage on the insurance exchanges. Merkley noted in a telephone press conference Wednesday that private insurance companies don’t like the possibility of facing increased competition, and he noted an Oregon example, He said when  SAIF (the State Accident Insurance Fund) was revamped, it became serious competition for private insurance with the result that the premiums for workers compensation in Oregon were cut in half.
