Authorities: Man acted alone in woman’s disappearance

BEND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say they believe the ex-boyfriend of a missing Oregon woman acted alone in her disappearance.

The Bulletin reports the search is continuing for 24-year-old Sara Gomez who was reported missing in February.

Authorities say they believe 31-year-old Bryan Penner killed Gomez, but the location of her body is unknown. Penner killed himself while in police custody last month in connection with Gomez’s disappearance.

Bend police say bloody ropes, blood puddles and smears of blood were found in Penner’s apartment. The blood is being tested to see if it belongs to Gomez.

Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel says the circumstances surrounding Gomez’s disappearance continue to be investigated, but there is no evidence that someone assisted Penner in killing her.
