Weekend events April 7-8


Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Oregon Care Partners will host a free, instructor-led class at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles titled “How Communication Influences Care in the Non-dementia Adult Population” designed to help anyone who cares for an aging Oregonian communicate effectively with older adults exhibiting challenging behaviors, such as anger and withdrawing. The class is designed to help anyone who cares for an aging Oregonian develop communication strategies and techniques to support a positive approach to behavioral challenges common in older adults.

Home at Last Humane Society Presents BONE SOUP: Barkin’ Away Again in Margaritaville Saturday at The Dalles Civic Auditorium. Happy hour at 6 pm, dinner at 7. Tickets for this 21 and over event are $25 or $200 for a table that seats eight people. Tickets available at Klindt’s Booksellers, Waucoma Bookstores and at Home at Last.

The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association’s Jazz Collective Big Band is giving audiences a chance to put on their dancing shoes and swing to a program of classic and recent jazz Saturday at 7 pm at the Hood River Elks Club. The evening is a combination of a swing dance — including some favorite hits from the 1930s and 40s — and concert. Swing dance instruction will be provided, and a dance floor will give audiences a chance to enjoy the music while dancing. Tickets for the all ages event are $15 for adults 18 and over, $10 for students and children (10-17) and free to kids under 10


Goldendale American Legion community breakfast from 8 to 10:30 at the legion hall to benefit the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Posse. It’s the popular $1 a la carte menu, one egg is a dollar, one pancake a dollar , one ham slice a dollar, all the way through except one biscuit and gravy is $2.

Mosier Cherry Blossom Buffet 11:30 am to 3 pm at the Mosier Grange. Local BBQ salmon, roasted ham, meatballs, scalloped potatoes, tons of different salads and cake topped with Mosier cherries. Over 50 volunteers help with this event to support the Red Cross Shelter, 4H, scholarships, and other great causes. Come enjoy a taste of small town community. Tickets $10 for Adults, $2 for Kids 6 -12, Free for children under 6
