BEND, Ore. (AP) — A former kitchen worker at the Deschutes County jail who acknowledged having sex with an inmate has been sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $200 fine.
The Bend Bulletin reports that 44-year-old April Ann Hoisington-Kite was sentenced on Monday. She will also be on probation for three years.
Judge Alta Brady says Hoisington-Kite’s actions created a substantial security risk. The inmate, Stephen Rechner, has numerous felony convictions on his record, including for rape, identity theft and assault.
Hoisington-Kite, who pleaded guilty, had no prior criminal convictions. Her attorney, Matthew Baughman, had asked for a jail sentence of only the two days she’s already served. But Hoisington-Kite violated her release agreement by accepting several phone calls from Rechner.
