BEND, Ore. (AP) — A kitchen worker accused of having a relationship with an inmate at the Deschutes County Jail has pleaded guilty to a charge of custodial sexual misconduct.
KTVZ reports 43-year-old April Hoisington-Kite accepted a plea deal Tuesday and will be sentenced next week.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said Hoisington-Kite spent four months as a contract worker in the jail’s kitchen. During that time, she formed a relationship with an inmate.
Earlier this month, Hoisington-Kite also was accused of violating her pretrial release agreement by contacting the inmate in jail.
In Facebook messages to the television station, Hoisington-Kite said she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and doesn’t have control of her actions. She said her medical documentation will be presented at sentencing, “where I hope and pray the judge will understand everyone has issues and that I’m not a criminal.”
