COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) — A Coquille man faces charges of assault and attempted murder after authorities say he struck a man in the head with a claw hammer.
Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier says 46-year-old Richard Dockery was arrested Thursday morning, more than 12 hours after the attack at the Four Seasons Inn in Coquille.
Witnesses told police that Dockery struck Dan Navarro shortly after entering the bar. Three patrons intervened to stop the assault, and Dockery fled.
Frasier says Navarro suffered a fractured skull but is expected to survive. He says there’s no known connection between the men, and the motive for the attack is unknown.
