CONCRETE, Wash. (AP) — A western Washington state town has selected a design for its new flag.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports that the Concrete Town Council earlier this month selected a design by Concrete High School senior Becky Azure.
The flag shows Sauk Mountain in the background and the town’s towering industrial silos in front. Azure says those are the most recognizable features of the town.
A professional designer will next refine the flag design.
The town gets its name from producing cement, and the Portland Superior Cement Silos appear on the flag.
The town is also in a memoir by writer Tobias Wolff called “This Boy’s Life.”
The book was made into a movie of the same name with actor Leonardo DiCaprio. It was mostly filmed in the town of Concrete.
