GRANITE FALLS, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a 70-year-old man who was piloting a helicopter that crashed into a Snohomish County lake on Tuesday has died.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that the pilot had died. His helicopter crashed into King Lake, northeast of Everett near Granite Falls. A neighbor rowed out in a dinghy and helped get the pilot and a passenger to shore. They were both taken to a hospital, with the pilot in critical condition and the passenger serious.
The sheriff’s office says the helicopter had been airborne for 60 to 90 seconds when neighbors heard “strange sounds” and called 911 as the helicopter crashed into the lake.
