Mosier Fire Chief Jim Appleton appeals decision to put him on leave

The Mosier Fire District Board of Directors has placed Mosier Fire Chief Jim Appleton on paid administrative leave pending a decision on whether to terminate his employment. In a four page appeal to the fire district released to the media, Chief Appleton contends the decision following an executive session on September 25 was part of a meeting that was not properly noticed to the public and thus would be invalid. He adds that in the event the board intends to correct the error by noticing the decision for a public meeting and taking another vote, he requests this be done in an open public meeting. Oregon public meeting law is clear that if a public body employee is up for review or possible termination, that employee can request that the process be done in public and the governing body must comply.
