KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol has found no mechanical problems on the Sound Transit bus involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 405 in Kirkland in early May.
A couple driving an SUV was killed in the crash. The bus driver said at the time that his brakes weren’t working. He said that’s why he drove about two miles after being involved in the accident.
The State Patrol says several bus passengers called 911 to report the accident.
Sgt. Jerry Cooper of the State Patrol’s major accident investigation team told The Seattle Times everything on the bus seems to be in working order.
Cooper says it will be months before any decision is made about citations or charges. The driver is on unpaid leave.
