It’s going to be a busy week in Goldendale. The Washington State Search and Rescue (SAR) 2012 Conference is going to be held in Klickitat County for the first time, starting today at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds. The event will draw an estimated 600-800 attendees from around the world.
Insitu is the primary sponsor, though there are contributions from 50 other businesses. The company plans a high-visibility demonstration of unmanned aircraft for search and rescue purposes, with high-ranking military personnel planning to attend. It’s good timing for the company, in light of a new federal law that will allow the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to devise rules for unmanned aircraft in American civil airspace. The law is designed to allow law enforcement and emergency services to use the aircraft for domestic aerial viewing.
The local community will have a chance to witness demonstrations of SAR techniques on Saturday. Klickitat County SAR Coordinator Jeff King explains:
