On Wednesday North Wasco County School District held its sixth annual poetry slam. Despite the rain storm seventeen student and staff poets showed up to a large supportive audience. At the elementary level second place went to Colonel Wright’s Brisa Davis. Coming in first was Rianda Linebarger of Dry Hollow with her poem “Bug.” This is a repeat honor for Rianda who was a champion in the slam two years ago. In the middle school category, third place was earned by Sheila Evans, second place by Alberto Nalasco, and that level’s champion was Alyssa Springer who recited “Lost.” The high school division’s third place finisher was Cece Pincock. Second place finisher was Ashelyn Edmisten and winning honors went to Brady McCall with his lyrical “What Once Was, Is Again.”
The staff division was very competitive with Larry Fairclo accepting his fourth place finish under protest. He was bested by third place finisher Jane Welk, runner up Erin Vance, and champion rhapsode Rory O’Halloran for his fine epic, “Remember Me In An Fhairche.”
