KENT, Wash. (AP) — A police dog in the Kent police department is recovering after getting stabbed by a suspect.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that the police dog Kato was assisting officers responding to a domestic violence call on Tuesday. The department says Kato had located the suspect when the man stabbed the dog in the shoulder with a pocket knife.

Officers took Kato to the veterinarian where surgery was performed. The dog was released Wednesday from the clinic.
