Goldendale City Council maps exclusion zones for marijuana shops

09 18 12 Larry Bellamy closeup at town hall meetingOn the same day that the state of Washington began accepting applications for growers, processors and retailers of marijuana, the Goldendale City Council decided to take a wait-and-see approach, rather than enacting any new ordinances either banning the stores, as some cities have done. While no formal vote was taken, the clear sense of the council was that it would wait, avoiding anything that could cause potentially expensive litigation.

City Manager Larry Bellamy presented councilors with a map showing areas where marijuana stores would be prohibited because they would be within 1000 feet of a school, playground, park or day care center among other areas where children might gather.
