Fire in Hood River Sunday night

Fire crews responded to a late night structure fire in an abandoned house in the 700 block of Hazel Street in Hood River Sunday night.The fire was reported at approximately 10:15 PM in the building that has been vacant for nearly 20 years.

Crews from five area agencies responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Hood River Fire crews found the three-story house fully involved in flames. Crews operated a defensive attack utilizing exterior handlines to suppress the fire. Neighbors were alerted to the fire by flickering light through their bedroom windows. The fire was extinguished around midnight, with fire crews remaining on scene throughout the night to monitor the building.

Fire crews from Hood River and Cascade Locks Fire Departments, along with Westside and Wy’EAst Fire Districts responded to the incident. An ambulance from Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue in The Dalles was on standby durning the event. Fire crews were assisted by Hood River City Police and Public Works.The cause of the fire is under investigation and deemed suspicious in nature.
