Merkley statement on Honduras

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement regarding the situation in Honduras:

“The reports of irregularities and lack of transparency regarding the vote counting process following the November 26 elections in Honduras are deeply concerning. The Honduran government must respect the rights of Hondurans to peacefully protest, and it must complete the vote counting in a fully transparent manner that will allow Hondurans to have confidence and trust in the results of the election. It’s critical that the democratic process is respected and that the final result reflects the will of the Honduran people.”
