04 11 12 Cover to Cover Book Beat: National Geographic Kids Books by Jennifer Emmett

Jennifer Emmett is the editorial director for children’s books at the National Geographic Society. We interviewed her about two great kids travel books, National Geographic Kids National Parks Guide U.S.A. and National Geographic Kids Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas. The national parks guide includes tips on exploration, information about animals, sidebars, checklists, fun facts, maps, cool things to do, and much more. Readers will also find conservation information, a “find out more” section, glossary, and an index.

The road trip atlas includes easy-to-read, simple road maps of each state and Washington, D.C., and a map of the United States. State symbols, cool things to do, boredom busters, fun facts, wacky roadside attractions, and games accompany the maps and provide cool information with stunning photographs that will keep kids engaged for hours. As a bonus, we asked her, with the full photographic resources of National Geographic to choose from, what wallpaper she has on her work computer.
